Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  What should I pack?

A:  Summer weather in Telluride tends to be lovely! In July, the average high is 76 degrees Fahrenheit and the average low is 51 degrees Fahrenheit. Because of the elevation, it can feel quite hot in the sun (sunscreen is a must). Pack layers as the mountain location means temperatures change quickly. The temperature drops significantly at night. Bring a rain jacket, as a rain shower often passes through in the early afternoon. Please pack a wrap or jacket for both nights and opt for flat shoes or a stacked heel/wedge rather than a stiletto for the wedding ceremony.

Q:  How do I get around?

A:  Plan on booking ground transportation from the airport with a transportation provider as Lyft and Uber do not consistantly operate in the area. Please reference this page for more details on getting here.

  • Both the Town of Telluride and Mountain Village are walkable and worth exploring on foot.

  • The gondola will take you from town to Mountain Village and back.

  • The Town of Telluride also offers a free local bus called the Galloping Goose. Here is a link to the bus map and schedule.

Q:  Can I bring my kids?

A:  Although we will be hosting adult only events Telluride is a wonderful destination to share with your children. Childcare can be arranged locally if needed during the welcome party and wedding festivities. Reach out to our coordinator at hello@bysutton.com for more information.

Q:  What is the altitude of Telluride and how should I prepare?

A:  Telluride is nestled in the San Juan Mountains at 8,750 feet above sea level; Mountain Village is at 9,545. Most people are totally fine but some people who live close to sea level experience symptoms of altitude sickness when they first arrive in the mountains. Here are some steps you can take to avoid this:

  • Ask your doctor to prescribe Diamox, which can lessen or prevent symptoms.

  • Drink lots of water the day you are traveling, and get a good night’s rest the night before. Pace yourself if drinking alcohol on your first day in the mountains.

  • Consider renting an oxygen concentrator from Oxygen Delivers to combat symptoms.

Q:  We want to rent a house with other guests. What do you recommend?

A:  Local rental companies, Airbnb, or VRBO will be the best options for large occupancy rentals at reasonable prices. Please reference the lodging tab for links and discount codes.

Q:  We want to make an extended trip out of our visit. What do you recommend in the region?

A:  Telluride is surrounded by beautiful neighbors in all directions, many of which are less expensive but just as charming. See our Activities & Dining page or visit this link for more ideas!

Q:  Where are you registered?

A:  Your presence in Telluride is gift enough, however, if you are so inclined we are registered HERE.
